Summary: Over the past decade, researchers have learned that the hippocampus — historically known for its role in forming memories — is involved in much more than just remembering the past; it plays an important role in imagining events in the future. Yet, scientists still do not know precisely how the hippocampus contributes to episodic imagining — until now. Researchers have determined the role of the hippocampus in future imaging lies in the process of constructing a scene in one’s mind.
